I have been lamenting for a while that it’s been difficult for me to evaluate or even properly demo any of the Bento mesh heads from Genesis Lab. Until this one. So, now for something completely different, I am wearing Sofie, new from Genesis Lab.
The reason this one is different for me and I am trying it? It was a gacha prize. Had it been another head that you would demo and purchase a la carte, I would have passed again. Why? The demo for their Bento heads is completely unsatisfactory IMO. There is no way to evaluate how the head functions, because the only thing you can demo is the actual head shape and not the head’s functionality (and that includes animations which is important for Bento and all the different HUDs you need to make it work).
That said, I *really* like the skin release from Genesis Lab at Shiny Shabby. I have not done a good job on my Sofie shape yet (and have even been demoing some prepackaged shapes to save me some time – no luck yet), but I do very much like the skin. It’s beautiful (though it has no makeup options, it does have multiple eyebrows). The head? It’s just OK. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very pretty, as you can see (no hate tells please!!). But the functional aspects of the head? Not great when you compare it to LeLutka or Catwa. Just like the non-Bento heads, there is a clunkiness to the functionality because you have to use multiple HUDs to get it to behave like an actual Bento head and even then, it really doesn’t as well as others. It would be fine, even great, for still photography but isn’t a terribly realistic head for day-to-day wear IMO.
I believe they’re also generally less expensive than LeLutka or Catwa, and again this particular one was a gacha so for $100L you can try it out yourself if you get lucky.
