On Sale

I’ve been all up in my inventory these past couple days – deleting everything that doesn’t have a Legacy or Legacy Perky option, with only a few exceptions – and I realized how massive an impact the weekly “sales” have had on my inventory. I don’t think I’m exaggerating to say that sales inventory accounts for one-third or more of my entire “to blog/style” folder.

The truth is: there is no need to pay SL “new release” prices to have nice things in your virtual closet. Just wait a few weeks and an item you have had your eye on might be included in one of the weekend sales.

TJ Maxx Model?

Does the SL fashion economy lurch towards the “TJ Maxx model“? IRL, the supposed “on sale” inventory is actually made for the volume discount chains, not for a luxury brand’s primary storefront. That designer bag? They made thousands and sent it straight to the outlets. It’s definitely not an apples to apples comparison from SL to RL, but considering how many more people buy a perceived quality item at $60L vs a new release for $285L, it’s clearly driving a shift in how people buy.

Thanks to weekend sales I have been able to acquire more BoM skins than ever before (2-3 every weekend, sometimes) and who doesn’t love that? On the other hand, the events I used to get really excited about because of the guarantee of brands and releases you wouldn’t see anywhere else, can seem almost anemic in comparison to the full catalogs available every single Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

OR, maybe the shift in the makeup of my inventory says more about my consumption (never ending, insatiable) than it does about any overall trend in the SL fashion economy.

At any rate, I picked up a lot of what I’m wearing here at various sales – including the perfectly-timed 50% off at Belle Epoque, where I stocked up on items that had been updated for Legacy Perky. Score!
