slim pickins

Unpopular (probably) opinion: it’s been slim pickins for me at most events lately – even at my absolute favorites like Collabor88 and Kustom9. In fact, I find fewer and fewer reasons to teleport these days after browsing the various event catalogues on Seraphim. Events I used to mentally bookmark and get excited for IRL (for example – Uber used to be a fave) rarely prompt a “day of” visit anymore.

Is it just me? Has my brain finally become saturated from the (truly) never-evolving wheel of slutwear and trope-y fashion? Am I just experiencing another inspiration slump or is it something more substantial? Or an absolute terrifying question: am I just too old to appreciate what’s out there now? The horror.

I pondered these things – and more – as I put together a new favorite virtual style mix…

I started with this unique skirt from Baiastice as my “anchor” and built around it. Unfortunately nothing in my “new and to blog” pile fit the bill for a top, so I did a strategic dive into my inventory and pulled out this perennially reusable blouse from [SHIFUKU] again. That’s what fatpacks are for, anyway. I then added a recent “mini bags” release from Movement and some already well-worn jewelry (nothing new has appealed to me), as well as delightful shiny heels with a perfect bow from Supernatural. Finished it all off with a top coat from DAMI and promptly went to find pieces in my own RL wardrobe to recreate as much as I could.

While happily building this look – trying on, sorting, sometimes deleting, and re-filing tons of stuff as I worked on it – I answered my own question, which should have already been obvious. My favorite inspirations are styles that mix new, new-ish and positively ancient items. SL fashion will probably always be – well, what it’s always been. The inspiration though, is up to us. And, like all creative pursuits, the biggest ingredient to style inspiration is entirely subjective and always variable.
